What is a financial adviser?
If you’re struggling with managing your money, planning your retirement or looking to build your wealth with the proper investment strategy, you may be in need of solid financial advice from an expert.
Here's more about what a financial adviser is, what they do and how you can find the right one for you.
Generally, a financial adviser is someone who gives financial advice to their clients. But the work of a financial adviser does cover more than just providing basic advice on how to handle your money. According to ASIC, a financial adviser is a person or authorised representative of an organisation licensed by ASIC to provide advice on some or all of these areas: investing, superannuation, retirement planning, estate planning, risk management, insurance and taxation.
A good financial adviser works with you to understand your needs, help you set your financial goals and create a plan to help you achieve them. They would take time to analyse and understand a client’s current situation before making actual recommendations. Aside from helping clients manage and invest their money to help them meet their financial objectives, a financial adviser can also evaluate and monitor investments on a client’s behalf.
The most important part of a financial adviser’s role is to openly and honestly communicate the long-term strategy with a client. Both parties involved should be aware of the goals of the client. And the client should be able to understand the advice being presented.
Every person’s financial situation is unique. It’s therefore important to know that your financial adviser has the proper skill set and qualifications that will best suit your needs. So, what questions should you ask before you work with a financial adviser? To learn more, read here.
