  • Web development

Web developers are in high demand because many businesses join the online community to expand their reach without spending too much money.

Many companies, including large and established ones, are willing to pay skilled professionals to create websites for their brands.

The advantage of web developers is that the programming language they need to learn isn’t as difficult compared with other programmers who build programs from scratch. Some sites, such as Wordpress, already have the tools needed to build a decent and functional website that a basic grasp of CSS and HTML can go a long way.
  • Graphic and web design

Similar to web development, graphic designers and web designers are in demand among companies that are involved in digital and print media.

In fact, clients may pay from a few hundred dollars up to $10,000 or more for a professionally developed website instead of hiring an in-house designer.

It’s not difficult to learn the skills you need to accomplish graphic and web design work, and while designers may want to purchase expensive equipment for work, it’s not necessary. Rather, the main investment is learning the skills, having the appropriate design software and honing your design sense.

You may also learn some programming languages so you can offer and charge higher for a complete website package.
  • Social media marketing

Many companies are realising the importance of online presence – some even budget a large amount of money to pay for influencer marketing.

However, paying influencers isn’t the only way a company markets their products and services on social media. Many businesses pay specialists who analyse and strategise their social media content and exposure, as well as run campaigns, to keep their brand visible and relevant.
  • Content and SEO writing

Anyone can write but not everyone is able to do so in a way that converts content into money – and this is where professional content writers come in.

Professional content writers produce high-quality search engine optimised (SEO) content that cater to both readers’ interests and rank high with search engine algorithms.

  • Virtual assistance

Many people make money from assisting companies, small and medium enterprises and freelance businesses with tasks they need to accomplish. Clients usually pay to get some seasonal or regular things done, but they don’t necessarily want to hire a full-time staff to do it.

For instance, some companies simply need help with applicant background checks or interviews schedules. Instead of hiring a full-time or part-time human resource staff or a secretary, some simply contract freelance virtual assistants for the one-time work to get things done.
  • Video editing

Similar to content and SEO writing, a high-quality video content can make a huge impact for businesses, especially when it comes to first impressions. It’s because of this that many companies hire video editing professionals who already have the skills and tools to make their videos stand out.
  • Voice acting

Many videos have a script but don’t necessarily require actors – this is where voice acting steps in.

Voice actors lend their voice to clients for a variety of audio productions. They may be involved in narrations, podcasts and audiobooks, among other voice-only media.

Depending on the type of job, experience and the client’s budget, voice actors may easily earn up to $40 per hour.
  • Freelancing isn’t for everyone

Freelance work may offer a certain degree of freedom both professionally and financially, but this path isn’t for everyone.

If you want to try your hand at freelancing, most experienced freelancers suggest doing it as a side job first to get a feel for the environment you’ll be working in. Likewise, many recommend ensuring that you have enough savings to last for a few months if you want to terminate your full-time employment in favour of freelancing.
