Wildlife Warriors NFT project

Australia Zoo has announced the launch of a new collection of NFTs in celebration of the 20th anniversary of the zoo’s Wildlife Warriors organisation.

The Wildlife Warriors NFT project aims to raise awareness and funds to protect the nation’s “wildlife and wild places” and will feature a series of drops that each focus on a different Australia Zoo Wildlife Warriors animal.

“At Australia Zoo, we’re always open to new ways that can help continue our Wildlife Warriors mission,” Australia Zoo’s Robert Irwin said in an announcement on Wednesday.

“Any innovation that can help our conservation efforts, particularly one that shares our vision of protecting the planet, is something we’re thrilled to support. This green chain and new technology allows us a new avenue to continue to fight for the protection of our wildlife and wild places.”

All 100 per cent of the primary sales proceeds of the NFT project will be donated towards the conservation efforts of Australia Zoo and Wildlife Warriors.

Australia Zoo partnered with Australian-based technology startup Meadow Labs for the project, which will include NFTs that are randomly generated, non deterministic, utility-driven and 100 per cent unique to the buyer with no duplicates.

“We’re really excited to partner with Australia Zoo in their first foray into Web3 and their mission of fighting for the planet’s wildlife and wild places, one NFT at a time,” commented Meadow Labs co-founder and CEO Martin Kelly.

“This is a sensational example of what innovative brands can achieve when they open themselves up to the endless possibilities that Web3 has to offer. This is just the beginning of a long-term partnership to create an ‘NFT for good’ movement that builds on ensuring we all have a sustainable future.”

The limited NFT series will be launched on Alogrand, which has been described as the world’s first carbon-negative blockchain.

“It's fantastic to see Australia Zoo and Meadow Labs bring wildlife conservation fundraising to the Algorand blockchain, as it really fits in with our core value of sustainability,” said Adriana Belotti, head of communities, Australia, for Algorand Foundation.

“It's important to highlight that fundraising via NFTs on a public blockchain also means that transactions are processed through a smart contract that automatically transfers 100 per cent of primary sales proceeds to Australia Zoo and that Algorand delivers that service with carbon-neutrality. It's good for the animals and for our planet.”

Australia Zoo confirmed that the NFTs would be available globally and will be able to be purchased with fiat on-ramping via MoonPay.

More information about drop dates and specific details on how to buy the NFTs will be released in the coming weeks.

The home of the Crocodile Hunter joins a number of other Australian companies and organisations which have jumped into the space recently including Qantas, which announced its plans to become the first ASX-listed company to embrace NFTs earlier this year.
