Aware Super bolsters support for financial advisers amid growing partnerships
In a strategic move to enhance its growth trajectory, Aware Super has announced a significant investment in bolstering support for financial advisers, aiming to deliver superior retirement outcomes for their clients. This initiative underscores the critical role financial advisers play in Australia's financial advice ecosystem, particularly for clients grappling with intricate financial and retirement planning.
The superannuation fund has witnessed a notable uptick in the number of registered advisers leveraging its services, accompanied by the formation of new licensee partnerships. To build on this momentum, Aware Super is expanding its Advice Relationships capability, with a focus on providing advisers with reliable, practical support, local relationship management, and in-depth technical expertise.
Central to this expansion is the creation of a new position, Senior Manager of Technical Services, to which Troy Smith has been appointed. This role, nestled within the Advice Relationships team, is pivotal in developing and delivering technical education to licensees and advisers. It will involve conducting professional development days, participating in industry association events, and hosting webinars. Additionally, the role will offer technical support to financial advisers navigating complex client scenarios.
Troy Smith brings over 15 years of experience from his tenure in technical and advice-facing roles at Insignia and ANZ/OnePath, including his previous position as National Manager of Technical Services at Insignia. Most recently, he served as Partnership Disputes Resolution Manager at Zurich.
Natalie Jarvis, Aware Super's General Manager of Growth and Partnerships, expressed confidence in Smith’s appointment, emphasising its potential to reinforce the fund’s adviser proposition. "As adviser engagement continues to grow, it’s critical we invest in deep technical capability that advisers can rely on," she stated. "Troy brings extensive industry experience and a strong ability to translate complex technical issues into practical guidance, which will further enhance the support we provide to advisers and, ultimately, their clients."

Smith will report directly to Warwick Gribble, Aware Super's National Manager of Advice Relationships. His appointment is seen as a testament to the $235 billion fund’s long-term commitment to fostering constructive and collaborative relationships with the advice profession.
Jarvis elaborated on the fund's dedication to the advice sector, noting, "We understand that advice is not one size fits all, and that many of our members value the personalised guidance that comes from working with a trusted financial adviser." She added, "Our role is to support that advice ecosystem by equipping advisers with strong local relationships, high-quality technical support and education, while ensuring members can access advice in the way that suits them best."
The move to enhance adviser support comes at a time when the financial advice industry is undergoing significant transformation, with increasing demand for tailored advice to address complex financial needs. Aware Super’s initiative reflects a broader trend within the industry to provide advisers with the resources and support necessary to meet these evolving demands.
By investing in technical services and adviser support, Aware Super is positioning itself as a leader in the financial advice space, offering advisers the tools they need to deliver optimal outcomes for their clients. This strategic focus not only strengthens the fund’s relationship with advisers but also ensures that its members receive the highest quality of advice and support.
As the financial landscape continues to evolve, Aware Super’s commitment to innovation and collaboration with financial advisers sets a benchmark for the industry. By prioritising technical expertise and practical support, the fund is poised to navigate the challenges of the financial advice sector, ensuring its members are well-equipped to achieve their retirement goals.
